The faculty and
students at South Anna Elementary in Montpelier, Virginia are
proud to announce that the
school has now raised over $100,000 for the American Heart
Association through annual Jump Rope for Heart fundraisers. In
eleven events beginning in 1999, South Anna Elementary students
collected donations in the form of pledges from friends and
family towards the school's yearly Jump Rope for Heart goals.
Students then jump rope in their weekly physical education class
under the direction of South Anna P.E. teacher and former
Hanover County Teacher of the Year Carol Beazley. This year, the
students surpassed the school goal of $11,000 by raising over
$12,000. This put the school's total contribution over $100,000.
On the last day of school, teachers of the class that raised the
most money at each grade level, the music teacher, the reading
resource teacher, and the school principal went down a water
slide in front of the entire student body to celebrate the
Walk, Jog, Run Club:
Students Grades 2-3 are invited to participate in the
Walk-Jog-Run Club, Rain or Shine, Mondays,
October 18th – Nov. 22nd.

Students Grades 4-5 are invited to participate in the
Walk-Jog-Run Club, Rain or Shine, Tuesdays,
October 19th – Nov. 23rd (No Club on Nov.

Family Fitness Fun Club:
This is a club for students and family members that will encourage
participating in community fitness related activities. There are many
fun physical activities you can do with your child to promote aerobic
fitness while enjoying being together. Planning for a variety and focusing
on fun will help keep you child’s interest high. When you child
participate in any of the following events they can earn a running man
charm. When a family member completes 5 or more events they will
receive a fitness award. Here are some of the up-coming events that Family
Fitness Fun Club member can earn fitness awards:
Walk Jog Run Club Member (for students grades 2-5 only),

The Fit for Life Kids Challenge:
The Fit For Life Kids Challenge is a free incentive-based fitness program for elementary and middle
school-aged children throughout the metro Richmond area culminating. The
program will encourage youth to run 26 miles over the course of a 12-week
period. The program will start at the end of January.
Kids Challenge runners earn terrific rewards for accomplishing goals. Every
five miles, you earn a FREE prize from Kids Challenge sponsors. Just have an
adult sign the appropriate sponsor coupon, then trade it in to claim your
Walk, jog, or run, but make sure you come out
and support South Anna Elementary for our second annual Fun
Family Fitness Event. In addition to the races, students can
visit a variety of fitness stations. Date TBA.
