A visual impairment including blindness means an impairment in vision that, even with correction, adversely affects a child's educational performance. The term includes both partial sight and blindness.
Hanover County teachers working with blind/vision impaired students are committed to providing ongoing education for parents to assist them in their crucial role as the primary educator for their child. Hanoverís VI teachers work with infants and students through the age of 22, offering Braille instruction and Orientation and Mobility Instruction, as well as other services to meet the studentsí needs. Technology is current and up-to-date in order to assist students in accessing the general education curriculum. Adaptations such as large print are available for students. Students who are able to participate in general education classrooms receive support from an itinerant teacher of the blind/vision impaired in their neighborhood schools.
