These students are investigating macroinvertebrates at the 6th grade Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE) activities held annually.

Research methods and investigations are spiraled throughout  all grade levels. The focus is set up to be developmental from simple investigations to actual detailed research projects. Many of our elementary schools conduct their own Science Fairs and/or Science Galleries to promote the research achievements of our younger students. An emphasis on natural curiosities and pride in your own work is valued  by our school system.

Middle school students continue to do research and investigations as a class and in small groups. All eighth graders choose their own topics for research and receive assistance in data collection and project write ups. All high school students in advanced level sciences are required to do extensive research as part of their curriculum. Hanover offers opportunities for all students to compete in the Metro Richmond Science Fair (held annually in March) and in VJAS (Virginia Junior Academy of Sciences) at the state level. For more information, please contact your child's science teacher.
