Instructional Program Overview

Our four middle schools currently serve 4,418 students.  Academic Teams are a unique part of the middle school experience for each child.  They enable students the opportunity to grow physically and mature academically under the caring and watchful eyes of not just one teacher, as in the elementary school experience, but under the professional eyes of three or four teachers.  The team approach stresses organization and time management while nurturing creativity and building a strong foundation for success.  The middle schools operate on alternating block schedule (four classes each day).  Typically, middle school students take eight courses per year.  The academic core includes English, mathematics, science, social studies, and health and physical education.  The other courses may be selected from a variety of elective course offerings.  Each year parent/student course information documents outlining expectations for each course are sent home with students.
