Program Goals

Elementary guidance counselors are available to students in all elementary schools.  Guidance and counseling programs, activities, and services focus on helping children experience healthy growth for future success.  Counselors assist teachers and school administrators in the early identification of children's problems and help determine appropriate interventions for preventing these problems from becoming critical.  The elementary counselor provides regularly scheduled classroom guidance lessons, and individual and small group counseling as requested.  The counselor also is available as a resource to teachers and parents.

Classroom guidance lessons build from year to year.  They are designed to establish and support positive relationships with others, self-confidence and a healthy self-concept and to promote success in school and a smooth transition to further education and employment.  Objectives for the annual guidance program are listed below.
